    Το αντικείμενο έρευνας – διδασκαλίας του εργαστηρίου είναι η Γλώσσα, η Ιστορία και ο Πολιτισμός των Ιόνιων Νησιών. Ανταποκρινόμενο στις εκπαιδευτικές και τις ερευνητικές ανάγκες του Τμήματος, κύριο μέλημα του εργαστηρίου θα είναι ο εντοπισμός, η ανάλυση, η αξιοποίηση και η ανάδειξη τεκμηρίων, αρχειακών πηγών και βιβλιογραφικών αναφορών, στα ακόλουθα, μεταξύ άλλων, αντικείμενα:

  • Της Γλώσσας, της κυριότερης εκπολιτιστικής δύναμης, ως σύνθετου και ιδιαιτέρως καθοριστικού εργαλείου έκφρασης, της γλώσσας των ιστορικών κειμένων και των μνημείων του πολιτισμού, της συμβολής της γλώσσας στη διαμόρφωση των ποικίλων πολιτισμικών συμπεριφορών, καθώς και τη σημαντικότητα της διαφοροποίησής της στην ιστορική της εξέλιξη, αλλά και με τη μορφή των διαλέκτων διαχρονικά και στον εκάστοτε εξεταζόμενο χώρο. Στο ίδιο πλαίσιο, θα ενταχθεί και ο εντοπισμός, η προσέγγιση και η ανάλυση ζητημάτων, προβλημάτων και προκλήσεων κατά τη μετάφραση ιστορικών κειμένων, η ιστορική εξέλιξη ειδικής ορολογίας και η καταγραφή και η κωδικοποίηση ορολογίας ιστορικών και πολιτισμικών κειμένων.

  • Της Ιστορίας, inter alias, του εργασιακού και του δικαιικού φαινομένου. Η Εργασία, ως γνωστόν, αποτελεί φαινόμενο άρρηκτα συνδεδεμένο με τη διαμόρφωση του περιβάλλοντος, στο οποίο αναπτύσσονται συγκεκριμένες συμπεριφορές, αντικατοπτρίζοντας στοιχεία πολιτισμού που διαμορφώνουν εν τέλει τη λειτουργία της ίδιας της κοινωνίας. Ενδεικτικά αναφέρονται τα εξής θέματα: ιστορική εξέλιξη εργασιακών συνθηκών, θεωρίες και συγγραφικά έργα για την εργασία και το επάγγελμα, δομή, οργάνωση και λειτουργία επαγγελματικών συσσωματώσεων, ιδρυτικές πράξεις, καταστατικά, δικαιοπραξίες εργασιακών σχέσεων, αμοιβές, κρατική εργασιακή πολιτική κ.ά., ιστορική εξέλιξη (από το ρωμαϊκό, το βυζαντινό, το μεταβυζαντινό έως το σύγχρονο δίκαιο) και ανάλυση των βασικών αρχών και κανόνων γραπτού και εθιμικού δικαίου, διαμόρφωση των συναλλακτικών και των χρηστών ηθών στον επτανησιακό χώρο (15ος-21ος αι.).

  • Του Πολιτισμού, μέσω της ανάδειξης των ιδιαίτερων χαρακτηριστικών στοιχείων και του περιεχομένου του πολιτισμού διαφόρων κοινωνικών ομάδων, λαμβάνοντας υπόψη την οικονομική και την πολιτική κατάσταση, τη μόρφωση, την ανάπτυξη της επιστήμης και των τεχνών. Σε αυτό το πλαίσιο εντάσσεται και η γενικότερη προσέγγιση και η ανάλυση θεμάτων που αφορούν ταυτότητες και διαφοροποιήσεις πολιτισμικών εκφάνσεων στον ιόνιο χώρο.

George Kentrotis
Director of the Laboratory

George Kentrotis was born on 5.5.1958 in Molaus, Laconia. He studied Law and Political Sciences at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He retrained in Administrative Law with Professor Wilfried Fiedler at the Universität des Saarlandes in O.D. of Germany, declared Doctor of Laws. He practiced law for years in Athens and abroad. In 1994, he was elected a member of the faculty at the Ionian University's Faculty of Education, where he continues to serve until today. He has taught as a guest professor at universities in Greece, Germany and Italy. He has repeatedly served as the president of the Greek Orthodox Church of Greece and a member of the Senate of the Ionian University. He is dean of the School of History, Translation and Interpretation of the Ionian University. He is a regular member of many international scientific societies. His main research interests are in the theory and practice of translation, linguistic philosophy, ancient Greek and Roman tradition, world literature and Greek literature with an emphasis on the work of the Heptanese School, Greek surrealism and literature from the Middle Ages to in our days. Translates into Modern Greek from Ancient Greek, Latin, German, Italian, Spanish, French, English, Russian and Czech. He has published over 60 translations, three novels and five poetry collections in book form. He is a regular member of the Olympic Fan Association of Piraeus. He is interested in sports, visual arts, classical music and popular music from all over the world, especially rebetiko singing, Neapolitan cansonetta and Argentine tango.

Fotini Karlafti-Mouratidi

Fotini Karlafti-Mouratidi is a graduate of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Athens (Department of Philology), a graduate of French Philology from the same university, a graduate of graduate studies (Diplôme d'Études Approfondies) of the Université de Paris I-Panthéon-Sorbonne, a doctorate in Economic History (Doctorat ) likewise of the Université de Paris I-Panthéon-Sorbonne, Sciences Économiques-Sciences Humaines-Sciences Juridiques et Politiques. Since 2010, she is a contract teacher  at the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting of the Ionian University and since 2017 a permanent teacher as a member of E.D.I.P. in the same Department. He teaches: Translation of economic, legal and political texts (French-Greek, Greek-French), History of Law, European History, History of Labor and Labor Relations, Legal Actions and the postgraduate course: Analysis of Political Discourse. He is a founding member of the Laboratory: "Language, History and Culture of the Ionian Islands", as well as the electronic magazine of the same Laboratory, entitled: Ionian Islands State in the same Department. He is the author of six books, two of which are in French. She has held lectures and participated with announcements in several conferences, while a number of her articles have been published in scientific journals. Her research activity concerns issues of Economic History, History of Law, History of Labor and History of Institutions.

Anastasia Parianou

Anastasia Parianou has a degree in translation from the University of Heidelberg, a DEA in translation from Paris X-Nanterre and a PhD in translation from the Ionian University, Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting. He teaches technical translation in the German-Greek and Greek-German language pairs, cross-cultural special communication, theory of interpreting and community interpreting at the ТХГМД. Her scientific interests are: technical translation, special translation and risk communication, translation between 'big' and 'small' languages, interpreting, phraseology. She is editor of the international peer-reviewed journal mTm (“MTM. Minor Translating Major-Major Translating Minor-Minor Translating Minor”) together with Dublin City University's professor of translation Michael Cronin and professor of the University of Athens Panagiotis Kelandrias

Ioannis Karras

Dr. Ioannis Karras is a graduate of the Departments of English Literature (B.A.) and Linguistics (B.A. – Honors) of the University of Calgary, Canada. He holds two postgraduate degrees: in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from EAP (M.Ed – Excellent), and in Intercultural Communication from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom (M.Sc. – Merit). Finally, Ioannis Karras holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the Faculty of Philosophy of the Athens University of Applied Sciences. He has taught in Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs of the Universities of Patras, Piraeus, Thessaly, the Hellenic Open University, the TEI of Western Greece and the University of Greenwich (NYC of Athens). He has also given lectures at universities in Finland, Bulgaria, Italy and Turkey. His research interests and publications focus on applied linguistics, language teaching, and intercultural communication.

Vassilis Letsios

Vassilis Letsios is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting at the Ionian University with the subject "Modern Greek Philology and Literary Writing translated from Foreign Languages into Modern Greek". His scientific work includes the monograph entitled The Ghost Behind the Arras: transformations of the “political verse” in twentieth-century Greek poetry (Scholars' Press, 2013), the co-editing of a volume of travel writing entitled "A ship looms on the horizon ". The Finnish traveler Oskar Emil Tudeer in Greece and Hissarlik (1881-1882) (Assini, 2017) as well as studies of free verse and verse-making, literary translation, etc.
